A bit of Holasek History!

updated on november 6th, 2007

Holasek Greenhouses is a family owned and operated business, established in 1957 by our parents, Earl Sr. and Delores (Betty) Holasek. With over 50 years of being in business together, we all have so many stories and so much history to share, that it's hard to know where to begin.

It's hard to believe that dad and mom started our business with a glass structure that was only 20'x30' in size. Taking great pride in the flowers and vegetables that they grew in the tiny greenhouse, they began selling their goods to customers at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. Dad became well known at the Farmers Market. This led to selling flowers and vegetables to retail stores, businesses, and people that just stopped in to buy flowers for their own gardens.

As the demand for flowers and vegetables grew over the years, dad and mom decided to expand their greenhouse space and increase the varieties of plants and vegetables that they grew. With each expansion of the greenhouse, they always believed in their philosophy of working hard, working together as a team and pleasing the customer. That philosophy, 50 years, and the hard work and contributions of everyone in our family, has changed Dad and Mom's original greenhouse of 20' x 30' to our current greenhouses covering 8 acres of land.

During the past 50 years, we have built a few greenhouses, taken a few old ones down, renovated boiler systems twice, replaced hundreds of hoses and watering nozzles, implemented automated watering systems, transplanting machines and seeding machines. We no longer take our flowers to the Minneapolis Farmers Market to sell, instead we sell our home-grown flowers to fundraising groups, commercial landscapers, garden centers, businesses, and to anyone that loves and wants flowers in and around their home.

Today, as our family and flowers continue to grow, we still hear stories form customers, old and new, of Earl "going to market" with his plants, and of Betty watering and caring for the flowers. Earl & Betty's philosophy and pride haven't changed much in the past 50 years, it just covers a bigger area with a lot more of us to manage it.
